Oracle has been painting goalie masks for quite some time now, and there are some options.

We use Dupont and House of Kolor automotive finishes. Each custom goalie mask receives eight (that's right, eight) coats of clear. After the artwork is applied, 4 coats of clear are sprayed onto the piece. The next day it gets sanded, necessary touch ups done, then 4 more coats of clear. The day after that, the mask gets wet sanded and buffed to a level of gloss worthy of a champion show car. There are no ridges 'between colours, you get a smooth, unbroken gloss finish. This is automotive clear coat and is tough as nails.
